GAME DAY PROCEDURES

  • Check your assignments on the Metro website, www.metroumpires.net, or on your hard copy if one has been provided. DO NOT call the office to ask if your assignment has changed. Changes will be posted on the Metro website by 12:30 p.m. (spring) or 1:30 p.m. (summer).
  • If you have a partner, call him to coordinate what you will wear, who works what position, where to park, and any other information you need.
  • Call the school between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. The schools will not be able to tell you if your game has been changed until the afternoon.
  • When you call the school, ask for the Athletic Director or his/her secretary. When you reach them, tell them who you are, and which game you are scheduled to officiate. Also confirm game time and location. If you don’t know how to get to the game site, ask the secretary for directions. They are more than happy to give directions to you.
  • DO NOT CALL THE OFFICE FOR DIRECTIONS TO GAME SITES!!!!
  • Get yourself a Hudson or a King Directory for maps of the Twin Cities. If you have a computer and internet access you can get directions to schools using the MSHSL Web Site, or other map sites like Mapquest.com or Yahoo maps, etc.
  • Just because it is raining where you are doesn’t mean it’s raining where they are. Don’t assume your game is cancelled just because you look out the window and see rain.
  • Give yourself plenty of time to get there. Try to arrive at least 30 minutes before game time.
  • If you have a partner, locate him and park by him. If you get there before your partner, save him a place to park next to you. Don’t park among players and fans whenever possible. The walk won’t hurt you.
  • Dress alike. If you partner is wearing a dark blue shirt, you do too. Match your partner. Metro uniforms only. No other logos on your shirt, jacket or cap.
  • Arrive on the field together. There are three teams on the field. Remember, for the next couple of hours, you have only one friend on the field – your partner.
  • Leave the field together. Whenever possible, exit the field through the bench of the winning team.
  • Don’t stop to chit-chat with fans, coaches or players.
